Harmful Algal Bloom (HAB)

August 8, 2025 - The North Dakota Department of Environmental Quality (NDDEQ) received a report of a Harmful Algal Bloom (HAB) on Juanita Lake in Foster County. A water sample indicated toxin levels are above the reporting limit.

As a result of this testing, the NDDEQ is issuing a Harmful Algal Bloom ADVISORY for Juanita Lake.

Blue-green algae can produce cyanotoxins which may cause serious health effects in people and animals. Signage will be posted near public access points (see images).

The NDDEQ will continue to monitor the waterbody until sample results indicate toxin levels are low.
